Thinking sensibly about it… it seems a hard task to me! But what choice have I got? I can’t let my wife go on her own!

I started my motorcycling life at the age of 12 and, genetically conditioned (my father had Nortons), I always had English bikes, specializing in BSAs. Riding them through summer and winter, I was finally spoiled by getting my first car 8 years ago – the start of comfort. For some discomfort and to get trained for the run, we had now started a long term fitness program… and we will start it again in springtime!        ~ Dieter Eckel

Katrin Boehner & 1908 Triumph on Motorcycle Cannonball Run

Katrin is one of two women signed up for the Motorcycle Cannonball Run and she is planning on riding her 1908 Triumph motorcycle coast to coast on the event. Not American iron – but very cool all the same.

After having done the run through Germany in September 2009 (North to South, 1250 km), the Cannonball seems to be the logical increase of challenge. I started motorbiking 15 years ago on a Velocette KTS Mk1, and now turned to the earlier stuff – the less gears and clutch, the better!

We run a business for transfers and etched ID-plates in the South of Germany. We are looking forward to two weeks of comradeship, good riding and superb landscapes.         ~ Katrin Boehner

Bill Nugent & 1913 Sears Twin Motorcycle Cannonball

And you thought Sears offered just appliances and some decent hand tools! Well back in the early era of American motorcycles Sears also offered some interesting single and V-twin motorcycles (as they did again in the 1960s) and Caimag.com member Bill Nugent is planning on riding his cross-country on the Motorcycle Cannonball Run.

Motorcycle Cannonball Rider #27  Bill Nugent – 1913 Sears

It’s one thing to collect antique bikes, it’s another to actually ride them. When I found the Sears a few years ago. I thought it would be nice to get the old girl started and take her for a spin. Finding the time to do so proved otherwise. That was until the Motorcycle Cannonball came about. Thanks to Lonnie Isam Jr. the thought of taking her for a ride will become a reality.

With the exception of including some sort of modern brake system, I plan on running as original as possible. Hopefully nothing will crop up during Spring testing…

While the “race” will be in Class 3, and the “fun” in Class 1, the “competiton” will be in Class 2… See you guys at the starting line !       ~ Bill Nugent
