Dusting off a 1967 Harley Shovelhead Motorcycle

Back in the early 1990’s my brother bought a 1967 Harley from our dad.  The Shovelhead was a runner, probably the best in his collection, and it didn’t have any issues for several years.  He rode that old Harley quite a bit (as did I before he bought it) but he didn’t put much time into the care and maintenance that we all know these older bikes require.  To make a long story short, it got to the point where the bike wasn’t running well at all, and he ended up parking it under a tarp in the back of his garage.  I estimate that was around 10 years ago.  Last week, I asked him if I could come pick it up and get it running for him. Above are some pictures of the bike just out of the trailer after I got home from his house.  The bike had literally not seen daylight in 10 years. I’ll be back with more posts and pictures as I clean it up and get it running.

Been there, done that and still haven’t learned my lesson. I’d jump at the chance to bring another bike back from the zombie state (undead, but not really alive). If the tanks need cleaning and re-lining check the newsgroup for ideas. I like POR-15. Have fun and keep us posted.

Well how cool is that? Great looking bike – I especially like that saddle, is it original and correct? Do you have the saddlebags as I see what looks like the mounting brackets there.

Thanks. As far as I know it is original. The saddle bags have been in storage and they match the saddle. I’ll post another pic when I get them cleaned up and mounted.

Thanks Walt. Im into it now and the tanks look okay. Back brake has some issues. I’ll post an update soon.
