Re: Captain American Panhead Easy Riders Replica on Ebay

[QUOTE=Speeding Big Twin;60994]The first picture below is from the back cover of Fonda’s book and although it isn't great I don’t see rubber band heads:

In the next picture (not from Fonda’s book) Fonda’s bike appears to have an eight-rib gear cover and that is consistent with early-1950s, not 1960s. However, Hopper’s bike, in this instance his number one bike, has a four-rib gear cover:

In the third picture I again don't see rubber band heads on Fonda's bike. Has anyone got Peter’s phone number? Eric

Do you want his Malibu or Wyoming number?
Keep looking at photos and you will see some with rubber band heads. Remember there was more than one of each bike.

Those are the heads that use an "O" ring to seal the intake to the head instead of brass packing.

Chris, yes I know there was more than one of each bike. I posted above that Fonda indicated in his book that there were four: a 50, two 51s and a 52. And on page 259 he further confirms the amount: ‘Two bikes for me and two for Dennis.’

Hopper’s number one bike is in the pictures I posted above but his second bike only seems to appear twice in the movie, both times toward the end. But as I said, Fonda’s bike above appears to be consistent with early-1950s, not 1960s.

It sounds like you have Fonda’s phone numbers? Give him a call and ask him why he says in his book that the four bikes consisted of a 50, two 51s and a 52. And those years don’t seem to be printing/publishing errors because although there is an errata page at the front of the book that page contains no mention of the bikes. And ask him if he’s got Internet access because if he has then you could send him a link to this thread. Eric

I had his number back in '91 when we were working on the "History Of Harley-Davidson" movie. I have long since lost it.

I came "this close" to getting a picture of Peter with my 65 Dresser in the mid 70's. The family was here in OKC because Henry (his dad) was being honored by the Cowboy Hall of Fame Museum (now the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum) I worked at a small operation at the airport, they flew in by private jet. I had ridden to work that day, I asked for a picture & he agreed. By the time we found a camera with film the limo had arrived & they left.
Met lots of famous & celebrity folks there..but the best was the 'Professional Wrestlers'!

I just found a website that not only claims to have one of the "movie" Captain America bikes, but a 1936 EL serial number 001.. Check it out

Paugho's 1001 is one of many out there. In reality the first 1936 would have been 1000, not 1001.
