Thread: Davenport swap

The Servi-car lower clamp is the same casting as the Hydra-glide. The only difference is the Hydra-glide has a slot while the Servi-car has a hole. Simply find a friend who can machine the hole into a slot and you are there. All you will need it the washers that you have been given the part number for in several other posts.

    Mike,
The Hydra-glide does. The Servi-car does not.

    Re: Davenport swap

    OK Boys,
Note that Matt's tree is upside down. I have heard that the early trees could be adjusted that way.(Chopper boys did it) However, the lower covers (cowbells) do not fit that way. So Matt, if your tree is fitted that way the tins will not fit correctly.
And there is no reason for a new casting number on a '58 tree as the casting is not different, only the machining process is.
I suspect that when tha sidecar was put on it was not in '56 and the dealer (or owner) who did it used the trees available at the time.

    Rubone,

Must have taken that picture before I figured things out. Its no longer upside down. I now have it set up in the "raked" position.

Bike did have a 56 sidecar when we got it, but the paint was terrible, so we decided to separate the two.

I asked my dad about the sidecar trees, and he didn't think the early ones were actually adjustable. Come the late 60s they were definitely adjustable.

Does anyone have a casting number for the "slotted part of the trees". This looks to be very different than what I have on the bike here (more than just machining).

My slotted bottom tree is casting # 45707-50. (the one pictured in the other post)
The parts books show ADJUSTABLE components in '50. The same parts in '51. the long adjustment bolt has a '51 number so was likely stock for '52. All the adjustable forks for big twin show the same part number, from '50 into the '60s. I didn't check beyond that. Therefore I conclude that the slotted tree was ALWAYS stock for Big Twins as all the adjustment pieces are listed from '50. I looked through '50. '51.'52 supplement, '54, '56' 57' and '61 parts books.
I didn't feel a need to go further!
