    New Project - 1984 FLH

I looked at a 1984 FLH today and couldn't resist buying it. The price was right, it's a runner, and pretty darn correct. It is painted purple, so that will have to go. But I have always wanted a last year Shovel with the belt drive. It should be a fun and fairly easy project! Pictures to follow after I pick it up Wednesday.

I suppose it will have to be painted black with some white trim...!

    Congrats Dave.
Looking forward to it. Except that it is SOOO MODERN!

I had a nice 2002 Road King that I sold this Spring. That was a nice bike, but I never could get used to the rubber band feeling. I always thought a well sorted 84 belt drive would be as modern as I ever need. And it just makes it under the wire for the forum!

There were only 2 colors for the standard FLH that year. Red or black. Which way to go? I think I saw some of the original red on the back of the fairing.

I have a 1982 FLH with a belt drive and absolutely love it. Its like a classic bike with an electric start (minus the expense of a 65 Pan)

I say paint it black. Otherwise, the other two might get a bit jealous!

Figured I better take a few pictures before I get too carried away tearing it down.

Man I think I would ride the heck out of it until winter and then tear it down. Looks pretty clean. Not sure what kind of battery you have but I put in a sealed one in my 65. It's the same exact dimensions as the OEM one. More CCA and no worry about leaking battery acid.

The new bike looks great! Ok, I know it's an ultra-modern late model bike, but it's still nice. My buddy had an '84 FLH; he sold it without giving me a shot at it. i'm still trying to get over it.

From time to time I've seen pictures you've posted of your other bikes. They're all beautiful. This is the first time I've seen your living-room though.....NICE!!!

Where did you find that battery?

I have other bikes to ride so it's not a priority to have it on the road. I like to give my bikes a good going over before I trust my life to some unknown bodger. When back together it will be my primary mile muncher.

When I first listened to the engine on Monday it was quiet as can be. Wouldn't you know it, last night I heard a knock! It doesn't really matter as I was already planning the minimum of a teardown, inspection, and sprucing up of the engine anyway. Too bad I didn't hear that knock when I looked at it. I would have wrangled the price down some more.
