Thread: wiring diagram

    wiring diagram

does anyone have a wiring diagram to run a WL without the lights, speedometer or standard switch.

I'd like to be able to wire everything and just have a toggle switch to turn it on and off...

I can make it run, no problem, but wiring in the generator is where I'm getting confused... how should i loop that into the system?

just ground to ground and positive right back into the battery after it passes through the cutout?

have it all straight wired with the toggle cutting out the "hot" from the battery & generator?

This is a 51WL and all parts "should" be as original"

    thanks
    Zach

Of course you can you a 3 position toggle switch instead of the key switch.

Here is what I'm working with.... how can I make this play into the wiring diagram above since I have a cutout instead of a voltpak?

    thanks

No difference. Just run your cut out wires as original from generator to cut out and from cutout to terminals on your switch.

    Zach,
Are you planning on running a battery? If not your 3 brush generator and relay will not work, the battery is a necessary part of the system. What are you planning for ignition?

    Re: wiring diagram

    Yes, still planning a battery...
I have the standard ignition system for now, just would like to wire the whole system to have one main toggle switch, then a 2nd switch to turn on the lights if i decide to run them....

I elimated the whole speedometer/switch area on the tanks when i thinned them... so these toggles would be mounted under the seat or something

just need the generator to recharge the battery

may consider a small auto dash jewel light for each of the gen & oil lights
not going to run the high/low beam switch or horn button on the bars, actually no horn at all...

    someday I'll have a magneto!

    thanks

    Re: wiring diagram

You can run the ignition with a simple SPST switch, and the headlights: on-off and High-Low beam, using a DPDT CO switch, a dbl pole, double throw, center off (single pole would do it, but they're hard to find with center off) They sell DPDT-CO switches at every Radio Shack.
A little bent metal bracket with two holes through it, and your switch wiring is taken care of. You don't need gen and oil lights.
If you're going to go the Pa. state inspection route, you'll need a high beam indicator jewel light, tho, unless you're exempt for being an an-tee-Q. Looks like a pretty little "hot rod 45," there, Zach! Sweet.
