Yup, it's real. First years' numbers were serial, year-to-year, but it took a while for the MoCo to settle on one system. Belt-driven single. Looks right for 1908 single: I-o-E, automatic inlet valve and contact points. (Find a printing of the official H-D photo of "Walter Davidson after winning the Federation of American Motorcyclists National Road Run;" published in Inside Harley-Davidson by Jerry Hatfield, on p.11, for one). That's the motor, identical.
There was one obvious change in 1909: the addition of the gearcover, containing four gears in-a-row to drive the new magneto, up behind the cylinder, so it's no newer than '08.

You'd have to want it pretty badly, because to me, it would just make a doorstop. Or do like Bruce Linsday, and fabricate an entire bike around it, including the frame.

Yep. Pretty amazing. So where will it sell? Will it break past $30,000, how about $40,000...or even $50,000?

Way out of my range and wouldn't know what to do with a 1908 Harley engine even if I did own it (which I won't).

For $58,000 I'd say that was real, real bad!

I can't even imagine how many people are glued to their computer screens right now refreshing this one auction over and over.

Is this the next popular parlor game? Guessing how high is up?

Sitting a little over $25,000 with 8 minutes to go.

I am guessing any increases will happen in the last 10 seconds. Wait a few minutes to see.
