    Tire Size and Recommendations

Finally time to make a roller out of my 49 EL project. Would like to use correct looking tires. Recommendations please.

Shinko and Coker are the only two I have found that make a retro looking tire.
    Any place else make them.

Take a look at AVON MK II . I run AVON tires on my 48 pan and 42 flathead.
I think they have an original profile, and they wear well, also run well in the rain. Rod

Shinko is the one I have settled on, but I haven't got 'em yet. I hear that Cokers wear out real fast.

Firestone sold the molds to Coker. Firestone told me that themselves. Paps

Tom, is that the Classic 240 series?

Paps, regarding Firestone/Coker... they list a 500-16 Firestone Deluxe. Have you heard anything about the wear on them?

i ran continentals on one of my pans for a season and liked them. k12 if i remember right(i gotta look) they kinda remind me of a cross between old and new tread design. i have the avons mk11 on my udder pan an can't wait to see how they run out.

Panz, besides the 240, Shenko also makes a 270, which is a copy of the old Avon Speed-Grip design. I like that one a lot.

But to me, this Firestone (Coker) tire is one of the most appealing, and the one I keep going back to for the 'looks' of a vintage tire. I have just 'heard' that the mileage you get out of them is atrocious, but I don't know that first hand.

The Avon Safety Mileage tire, --- ya know, it looks okay too.

I keep going back to that Firestone, it has the right look, looks similar to the old Avon Speed Grips, which we used to jokingly call the "Death-Grips". So --- for me --- my choice is between the Shinko HD-270 and the Firestone/Coker 5.00x16.

I have the Avon MS MKII 5.00x16 on my Indian and the suck in the wet weather! I feel like a cat with a long tail in a room full of rocking chairs. I have been looking at the Beck diamond pattern ones and I want a decent tire for grip and wear. Any suggestions?
