    Gasoline

Most of my vacations are of the road trip type. Gasoline is now at one of it's lowest price/gal and I can't go anywhere. Really sucks. It won't get this low.

Driving over the road tractor-trailer in the 70’s, diesel prices doubled from the $.30+ per gallon to over $.80 per gallon in one year. As an owner-operator the jump in price cut hard right into my bottom line.

I remember that to Harry. Diesel was always cheaper that gas back then. When unleaded came out it was more that regular gas. Take the lead out and charge more? figure that one out.

They did not take the lead out.
They stopped adding the lead in and raised the price.

fluctuations of gas prices is a f--king racket. my son is filling up in Greeley, Colorado for $1.32/gallon. Here in Fort Collins, they're $2.07. Meanwhile Russia and the Middle East squabble and US shale production workers suffer. My son's high school buddy works for what was formerly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anadarko_Petroleum which was sold to an international corporation https://www.oxy.com/Pages/default.aspx for something like $22 billion a few months ago; now it worth something like $9 billion. Banks are getting more stringent who they loan money to because the wealthy are tightening their purse strings limiting the amount of money they lend to banks to lend to us folks. Interesting times.

This quote is from the very first post for 'Off Topic', by our beloved, Mr. Big.

Posting of anything related to politics, religion, government, gun laws and related topics are no longer allowed in the Off Topic category. Threads of that nature never end well and more often result in heated arguments, hurt feelings and general unrest among the troops here.

I come to CAIMAG because there are no politics, or outside world shit here.

I apologize to my CAIMAG brethren for my sanctimonious post. I'm one of the last people to lecture others about what should be on this forum. So, carry on.

Sure, it's that simple. They stopped adding the lead, pocketed the money they used to spend on it and raised the price. Costs were not at all impacted by the need for alternative additives and cost increases associated with changes to production processes that were required.
