  1. New member, old old harley fan.

    Greetings all,

I'm a long time Harley rider, mostly iron heads. 14 basket case to running Sportster projects to date.
50+ years a machinist, fabricator and foundry patternmaker so I'm getting to know my way around machining operations by now.
Always wanted a '20s era classic but unable to afford one, I built my own.
My latest 5 year project: Early hard tail frame with 1971 iron head for power. I modified the engine to fit the frame not frame to fit engine so it could be put back to stock anytime. Built my own springer front end as well as most of the 'accessories' like rear stand and brackets for electrical and lighting.

Here's a few pictures of my 'board tracker' at the "100 Years of Harley Davidson in Sacramento" celebration our local dealership had last year.

Got more pictures I can share but they seem to want to attach postage stamp size. Photobucket and I aren't exactly friends.

Thanks for the link Joe. I'm pulling out of photobucket and have signed up with imgBB. I looked at the postimages site to see who is going to give me the best service. Then it's just a matter of moving my pictures onto the new site.

Here are a few items from my collection of early Harley stuff. Enjoy.

I think we've all heard 'Jeep in a Crate' stories but here's how the factory shipped your new Harley to the dealership.
You've got to have an hole in your soul not to be moved by a bunch of WW1 Harleys in a boneyard after the war.
Found this handlebar hang tag at a flea market among some old photographs.

The first picture you posted is a 1916 H-D Model E single speed twin. It was the lowest priced, and lowest production twin for 1916.

Thanks for pointing out the thread Rubone, I just read through all 25 pages and there's definitely some good stuff in there.
Got a little old paper and photographs I've picked up along the way too. Some of it answers questions and other material just deepens the mystery.

Fer instance; In the reprinted "Service Dept. Bulletin" Vol. 1., Service Dept. Bulletin # 89, dated Nov. 1, 1920 deals with mounting motors in the "Dealers' Racing Frame". H-D's archivist insists there's no such thing as a "Dealers' Racing Frame" so why is there a factory service bulletin out on it?
