I agree with Chris, looks like a 1940 WL/DR 45 cubic inch flat head. Keep in mind that assumes the bike is relatively stock, we are seeing the 40-46 tank badges, without the Saturn Rings brings you to 1940 one year only with just the badge. Assuming it is stock, tough call with race bikes. Good luck, thanks for posting.

That was only after Jon K edited his original post, initially it only showed up as invalid file.

Can we definitely rule out Indian?
Can we be 99% or so?

    100% not Indian...

Most likely a WLDR, perhaps even a WLDR "Cheater" with all the factory mods. Depends on what his connections were.

    OK, thanks guys.
I was cleaning up a bit on Dad's house, and found this as a negative squirreled away in a shoebox.
I held it up to the light, fully expecting to see some unidentifiable baby.
Nope, it is a couple of old time flat trackers.
So, my heart skipped a few beats (not a good thing at my age) as I thought it might be a photo of my dad, CW Kemp.
Trouble is, he raced an Indian.
I knew he raced flat track, but he rarely spoke of it and I didn't press him. I sure wish I had . . .
The snippets that I can recollect were

"I wasn't no good at it."
"I raced an Indian out of George Gonzalez's shop." (Baton Rouge)
" I liked the half miles."
"I didn't have a car, my only ride was my Knucklehead. I would put the race bike in the sidecar and ride to the races."

My expectations were high, but he was clear that he raced Indian.
I am attempting to post a photo that I do have of Dad. On the beach at Daytona. Toolin' along. 
Do one better, if this works, I will post up a little story that I did somewhat document. One post down.

    Thanks a bunch guys!
