    Timer issues

My single point timer easily has .005" shaft to bush looseness according to a DTI. In addition I can hear and feel the slop. Endplay is OK. Some oil had pooled in the timer housing.
Have been studying the issue and read some really interesting things.:
Claim#1, Timer shaft should be periodically lubricated at the slot?
Claim#2, Bushings should have added oil grooves to help lubrication?

I know the shaft is worn. Are new shafts available? I find plenty of bushings on Ebay and elsewhere.
Can I reclaim the shaft by turning it between centers then custom making bushings to match?
Should bushings be made of sintered bronze or other?
Is there a clearance figure published?

Comments please. Experience, thoughts, tips etc. Pondering over best way to sort this. Thanks.

You want .001", usually the bushings wear and the shaft is ok

    Re: Timer issues

    Thanks for the thoughts. Appreciated.

    Cleaned and buffed for inspection.
    The journals measure 0.489"
The unworn part of the lower journal where it looks like the bush does not run I get 0.4895"
Upper journal especially pocked with rust pitting.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Replace the bushings and it will work fine.
