    Enclosed chain guards

I WAS OUT IN MY GARAGE DIGGING AROUND AND FOUND AN ENCLOSED CHAIN GUARD I HAD BOUGHT YEARS AGO AND NEVER PUT ON.I CAN'T REMEMBER EVER SEEING ONE ON A BIKE, MAYBE 3 OR 4 IN 30 YEARS. WERE THEY JUST A PAIN IN THE ASS? ,OR NOBODY USED THEM? (FEEL FREE TO CORRECT MY SPELLING) LOL

If all is good they work just fine with old style 530 chain, they do not work well with modern profile tires or o-ring chains though, either or both can cause a clearance issue.
The earlier version also did not have the rear inspection cover making it less useful for maintenance.

I had one like that, chrome outside cover, black inside on my '44 UL. I found the rear chain didn't require as much adjusting and the rear wheel didn't get as dirty! Tore the bike down to restore, put in with the boxes. When I get around to redoing it, I intend to put it back on. Doc

In the 70ies in Germany you could buy the "Becker Fettkettenkasten". They were filled with grease. They were available for Shovelheads, too. But very ugly.
They looked like this: (This one is for Yamaha.)

    1992 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail

The best were for Bultaco Metrallas but the above appear a copy. BTW some Laverdas had them. Alles gut!
