    Rear brake shoes

56 FL needs brake work. After 1-2 stops the rear brake fades. In the past, would have had the shoes relined, but can't find a shop that still does this.

Any recommendations on a good shop or a source of quality shoes?

The rear drum is stamped steel, and will always fade after repetitive stops due to expansion. Granted, some shoes are better than others. Check with a local brake/clutch shop for trucks and the like. Many used to do that work. Or check with Vintage Brake. https://www.vintagebrake.com/

Got a set of cast iron ones from Kick Start. Much better braking.

Buy new linings and rivets, buy the rivet setting tool and have at it. Not a bad job at all.

Why is a cast shoe better, or provide better braking ?

It isn't, the key is rigidity, not the material. However most aftermarket steel fabricated shoes are crap, so cast iron has an edge in the AM world.
