some kind of display stand with the metal hardware removed.Maybe a tire and/or wheel display.Pretty clean on top,had to be a showroom piece.WAG!

Agree, tire or wheel display. Never seen one, maybe a one-off made by the dealer, but the lettering looks just like it should for an Indian gas tank in the 20’s.

Just left the auction, The box sold for $1375.00 +18% buyers fee ($247) total = $1622.00. That would be cash. If credit card another 4% , Don't know who bought it. So if you happen to come across another one ya got a idea what to pay. Who knows it might show up on Ebay and some body might pay the piper $$$$$$$$

My guess is some enterprising individual will head into his wood working shop and start building them, add a little "patina" and put an Indian decal on it. They will be all over E-bay. Maybe he will even make the ultra rare, barn find, knucklehead era, Harley version. That will bring good money!

Note to whoever builds one, use "Clear" lumber, "No Knots", Silk Screen the logo after paint, before you beat it up adding the patina, then seal with a flat poly. With jigs set up to mass produce they could sell for $ 135.00, direct from China with free shipping on the "bay'...

It may be the base of a display stand for an "Indian" outboard engine.
