Thread: 1953 Chief CS61017 numbers matching?

  1. 1953 Chief CS61017 numbers matching?

The bike above is CS61017 and is claimed to be 'matching numbers'. The current listing does not show the frame number, but the answer can be found in the engine number photo which was in the listing.

For 'matching numbers' to have any meaning, it is when the stamped engine and frame numbers are the stampings that were performed at the factory and were with the machine when it was first delivered to its first purchaser. Is the CS61017 engine serial number a factory original stamping? Is there another clue in the photo that shows that the case has been modified? In another day or so, I'll reply to this thread with the answer.

After careful deliberation and introspection I declare the "1" font is askew and not the way it was done at the wigwam.

YellowChief, that’s my ‘53 that is listed on eBay and I’ve sent pics of it before to you for review. Anxious to hear if your consistent with your findings. I’ll add the frame number pic to the listing, tough to get a good pic.

Believe me, nobody is more interested in the response than me! A part of the reason I bought this bike was Yellowchiefs opinion on the correctness of the numbers.

Great supportive comment. Somebody takes a vague slam at my bike that could dramatically affect its value and then refuses to explain. I never asked for this and didnít start this post. Iíd ask that the admin deletes it.

I ran into this on my frame - I think the 7 is supposed to be straight instead of curved (that is what I was told) but I hope I am wrong.
