Thread: Thoughts on this 1948 frame

  1. Thoughts on this 1948 frame

Seller says the only things that were replaced was the top speedo mount, top tank mount, and toolbox mount. Does everything look correct?

It looks like a very nice frame, and better than my '48 frame. My only observation is the front motor mount forging which looks like a post '52 mount. I don't know, so wait for someone with more knowledge than me. At the end of the day, I wouldn't let that break a deal as the rest of it looks very nice. When the motor is in, and the bike looks like a million bucks; only Superman's illegitimate bastard son will be able to see that (possibly) later motor mount.

Yes... I will be able to see it, but I won't breathe a word to anyone...

I think there has been a bit more done than that. eg: thate footboard mount has definitely been replaced, and a lot of the welds look way too good to me.

    It is a 1954 frame.
    48 frames were die 14,15,16,17

The dash mount and floorboard tab are excellent work.

I had an NOS '48 frame, but I traded it for the Hope diamond and 2 Bugattis.

My custom 47 is in a nice 48 frame that I bought for $75.00. The only thing wrong was it sat in the guy I bought it from dads barn and he needed a piece of pipe so he cut the section between the top motor mont and the dash mount out with a hacksaw. Easy fix and I been running it for about 30 years without issue.

as 1950panhead says it’s a 1954 or later frame. The axle plate casting numbers and the rear engine mount casting numbers date it as such. Not even close to a 1948. I saw this last week on Instagram

Are repaired wishbone frames really bringing $4500?
