Thread: 1932 VL M-21 Carb - No Fuel?

    1932 VL M-21 Carb - No Fuel?

    Here's the background:

Needed to pull rear cylinder and both heads. New rear piston/rings. New copper head gaskets.

Before tear down, bike started easily without issue. Re-installed both, bubble checked manifold for leaks, installed M21 carb, all good. Fully charged battery, nice strong spark both cylinders. After kicking through multiple times, no hint that it wants to start. Choke fully closed, 2 prime kicks. Open choke 1 click, ignition on, kick again and again - nada.

Float bowl full of fuel. A squirt of fuel down the carb throat and it fires up and runs for 2 seconds. Pull carb and disassemble. No issues that I can see. Cleaned all passages with compressed air. Re-install. Same thing. Krikey! Pulled plugs and there seems to be no trace of fuel. Often when I get a situation like this after many start attempts the plugs will be wet with fuel. Not now.

Why would this thing not be drawing fuel?

    What am I missing?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Stumped. . .

Bike started before with no problems on the same carb, or is this a different carb ?? You state that you installed an M-21, is it the same one that was on it before ?

Same carb, no changes. Just opened and inspected. Clean all passages with compressed air. Made no changes to adjustments cuz it ran fine before.

90% of carb problems are electrical. Check timing....

Timing was never fiddled with. Never even accessed the circuit breaker. There was no need. It ran and started until now.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

This exact problem was described on my Linkert FB group. He was pointed in the usual directions and then reported he had found the problem and said, "ok,found it. a very sloppy venturi/nozzle hole.and a poor repop main nozzle". I asked him for more details but didn't hear back.
