    Fender spear question

    Hi,

Working on a buddies 1963 Pan. The fender tip is a funky fit, it fits the fender ok, but the area where the spears fit into sits a little off to the left...probably due to being a/m. Also the sections the spears attach to are rounded and the spears are sort of a V profile, are the spears Shovel and Pan round? I thought they came out of a kit, but who knows when it comes to my piles of disorganized crap.

    Thanks
    Craig

Dablaze, glad you figured it out and posted your question and solution. It’s nice to hear from others who’ve seen the same thing, but when you’re “on the job” it’s hard to wait for a forum reply...no instantaneous reply so you forge ahead!

On pans I believe the spears should be V shaped with one leg of the V longer than the other. Meaning there is a left and right side.

The ones on my 59FLH are V shaped like Dave said but equal length.

Makes sense. The spears are equal length. I think BNSONS meant that the 'V' shape is not symmetrical "Meaning there is a left and right side".

I believe the 'V' shaped spears showed up in '56 or '57. Before that, the spears were flatter and a bit wider.

The issue is that the ends it fits on my tip are round, I believe I have an incorrect year tip?
