    3 Spd + R Parts

Can someone please explain the difference of the 3 spd + R countershaft gear

    35703-39 countershaft gear w/ retaining ring - 19T (3sp & rev.) '41 to E'61

    35703-61 countershaft gear w/ retaining ring - 19T (3sp & rev.) Late '61

    35703-62 countershaft gear w/ retaining ring - 19T (3sp & rev.) '62 -

Reason for asking. Looking to add 3+R to my 1965 FLH. I have a never used 35703-39 and hoping????? to find one that is correct if mine is not useable for the current application.

Need to know the difference and what the heck to look for please.

The only difference between part nos. would be the speedo drive gear which is pressed on and can be changed for your application.

I'd trade an NOS late one for an NOS early one...

Just pulled the gear out, cleaned it up (been in storage for 14 years this April), and while I believe it is an original part, I think I may have misspoke stating it was never used. You can see some striations on the smaller diameter end.. There is one spot where the hardening surface is not there (small but maybe significant in the long run), and some wear between the gear faces (not from use but from sitting unprotected?).

+ there is no speedo drive gear on it.

So it is definitely not as nice as the one you have offered for trade.

Don't see any wear on the gear edges from interacting with mainshaft gears, but after looking at your pristine on I am wondering if there is wear on the small end (along the grooves?). I ran my finger along the edge but couldn't feel any portion that was worn below the other.
