    Indian motorcycle fishing reel

    Here's another so called collectable out there that has nothing to do with Indian Motorcycles. On ebay now.

    See: Old Reel Collectors Association {ORCA/reels/org}

    That the Indian Motorcycle reel being made for or by the Indian Motorcycle Co. is a myth.

    The reel was made by the Bronson Reel Co. of Bronson, Michigan and according to Lawsons Price Guide To Old Fishing Reels, 3rd ed. 2001. the reel is listed at $20.00

    I have seen a number of these in various sizes. I believe they were sold or given away by Indian dealers as promotions. But I might be wrong here. And I see them changing hands at $100 or more sometimes.

    Re: Indian motorcycle fishing reel

    After reading Buzz's reply I looked into more info. Seems it's an up in the air kind of story. I have seen dates from 1930 to 1950, that Indian dealers gave them out when you bought a new motorcycle. Some say that's a myth. Did Indian make them or have them made? They made outboards,refrigerators,shocks and maybe other things.One story has it that if you bought the reel for $28,500.00 THE BUYER WILL THEN HAVE THEIR CHOICE OF EITHER A 1940 INDIAN SCOUT MOTOCYCLE – OR A 1948 INDIAN CHIEF MOTOCYCLE TO BE INCLUDED FREE. IF THE SAME BUYER BUYS BOTH REELS – THEY WILL RECEIVE BOTH OF THE INDIANS AT NO CHARGE. Other stories out there, I'm going to retract my ( nothing to do with Indian motorcycles) statement, there maybe some kind of fact here. I have seen 3 different sizes, #40 - #60 - #150.

    Again, I am not sure, but believe they were made by a reel manufacturer and branded Indian for use by their dealers.
