3 ohm coils, plug gap plus voes on knuckle

put a 2000i dyna ignition with 3 ohm coils, single fire on my knuckle that i had on another knuckle motor i have that pinion bearing failed on it.plugs on it where gapped at .035 and seemed to work good at that setting, have been told i could go up to .040. also , plan on running voes. this ought to get some good negative results as seems sometimes to be the thing on here. using spike timer/distributor with S&S reverse gears. thanks

Anyone else having a hard time understanding what he’s saying or asking? You just want to know what the gap should be?

my question is this, how much can you gap spark plugs when using 3 ohm coils? the book says to gap knuckle plugs at .025 to .030 with the 5 ohm stock coils, so with 3 ohm coils gap them the same? what are people running for gap on shovels and evos who are running these ignitions ? can,t you gap them more because of less resistance in the coil with 3 ohms = hotter spark

I have the best luck with OEM points and coil. Jerry

.035 to.040 for electronic ignitions, but it is hard to get the ground strap square to center electrode if using stock plugs designed for less gap, but can be done.

use resistor plugs[not fancy small electode] & resistor wires..035 is fine.VOES is also good.

for those who care about this stuff, VPH-D asked ,Can you even get 18mm resistor large gap plugs? i ordered the autolite resistor plugs #288 and they came out of the box at .030 gap ,checked a new pair of champion D14s new .025s gap
