    Flame Glide Tanks

    Hey Folks
I have a mate that's looking for a set of flame glide tanks to replace his damaged and repainted ones, and have heard different stories regarding OEM Tanks
anyone know of any factory marks or distinguishing features that would help to identify Original Flame Glide Tanks?
Were they hand striped? are the crossover pipe outlets different from other wide glide tanks? Filler necks? or were they just std wide glide tanks painted with flames?
As usual all your input is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers & beers
    Laurie

1980 and 81 flame tanks were just standard 5 gal tanks painted with flames. Later in the 80’s H-D came out with a different color flame job, same pattern but on newer flat side tanks.

Do you know whether they were hand pin striped?

I have a 1980 FXWG Flame job that I bought new and I never thought I’d keep a bike that long. Any way they are not hand pin striped.
    Regards Dave

is there a chance of some pictures of the tanks? filler necks, and crossover hose outlets are they straight down from the tank or do they bend and face each other? we were told that they had some sort of stamp or mark on the frame side of the tanks making them specific to that model?
    cheers & beers

    Re: Flame Glide Tanks

Not sure if it holds true for the tanks you reference but my '85 Superglide tanks have a bar and shield stamped inside the filler necks where the bungs are. I sent it back to HD for a repaint of the original custom paint job it came with from the factory. The factory only repaint stock original HD sheet metal and it has to be in original condition i.e. it can't have or need any body work. They refuse it if those conditions aren't met. Mine passed but took me a couple of swap meets to find the tanks.

The Have the the Bar & Shield decal in the round hole in the flame. They were striped with a striping roller and a guide.
