    1949 Dash Light Sockets

I have the original dash and backing plate for my '49 WL, but it is missing the light sockets for the gen/oil lights. I've been looking around and can find re-pops of '46 and earlier dash light sockets, but nothing for the 2-light dash. I could buy a re-pop backing plate and go that route but would like to use my original base and I think I read a post here about the light sockets not being removable. Has anyone found any automotive sockets that will work in this dash?
    Thanks much,
    Karl

I think this might be what you are looking for, refer to the rest of the page where they sell the entire base. Looks to me like these are the sockets only for your application.

Replacement sockets can be had through NAPA along with other good auto parts stores.

Bill...I saw those sockets but according to my parts book those are for the speedo light not the dash light, unless the repops fit-ish both.
Robbie...I figured there would be an automotive socket that would work, I just don't have an old one to match up. I would think that there is more than one size/type so without something to compare I'm not which one would work. Maybe I'll just take my dash base down there and see what fits in the hole.
    Thanks much for the replies.

Keep in mind some sockets have 2 wires, some have one. Speedo light sockets have only one wire.

H-D used a lot of generic parts used throughout the automotive industry. The same sockets were used by lots of automotive and accessory companies back then. The current replacements will all likely be spring loaded plastic types rather than the crimped on type like original. They fit standard sized holes and are listed by hole size.

I just installed these in a 47 dash and they fit fine, much easier than trying to crimp on the metal ones. just my .02
