Motoring Genny, which amperage is expected

    Hi Gents,

I am motoring my rebuilt genny, in turns nice but is the drawn aperage which is needed for it normal? My power supply reads 5.7A at 7V and 5.4A at 6V (see picture). For me this amperage seems too high, i removed the brushes, the armature spins quite free - and yes, it is a 2-brush conversion of the 32e.

Thank you for reading and awaiting your opinions.

32E field coils & poles are not as large as the later -58/-61 6volt coils & poles, so I'm thinking the magnetic field is smaller, making it work harder to turn the armature. Hence, the higher amps. Doc

Thanks Doc - what would be the amperage when motoring a 58 6V Genny?

When I use my 6 volt Battery charger, I get about 4-5 amps on the gauge. Not very accurate, but close. Doc

Ok, thank you - so my values are not that far away and i think they are reasonable. Time will tell if the genny is set up correctly - but there is a good chance that it is.
