Thread: Police Blue

    Police Blue

Just got the frame blasted and painted last week and getting a few things ready to start assembling a '41ULH Police bike from Hammond, Indiana PD. I have all of the paperwork on it and it was ordered from the factory in Police Blue. I have looked a good bit for a color code or a nice example of what the factory used as Police Blue. I have reviewed the lists of all of the many PD blue shades and names but have yet to pin down what the bikes came with from the factory. It appears that many PDs painted, or had painted, their motorpools the shade they chose. Any help would be appreciated. I have bought several books on HD Police bikes but no colors or clues yet. It is very important to me to get this one correct as I have so much documented provenance on it. The only thing I am not sure I will replace correctly is the rightside shift tanks that were ordered. I might if I can get a set of nice tanks and linkage proper, but it will be a rider as well as a true collectible. It came as a 3 speed. Seadub

I was hoping someone has painted one or at least knows the correct shade/paint code for the factory police blue. I will buy a round trip ticket to the HD museum and scan it myself before I will pay $400.00 a quart for $60.00 a quart paint. Gonna take more than one to get all my color done. That is pornagraphic pricing. Seadub

    Re: Police Blue

Just doing the math on '41ULH bikes. There were roughly 420 made total. The normal factory color for Police bikes was offered in silver. The civilian models were surely the bulk of production. I do know that the Hammond PD that ordered my bike ordered 3, all the same color, Police blue. There most likely were no more than a handful ordered from the factory in Police blue. I was told that there is not one in the HD museum this color. I have a few pics but all are in black and white. Has anyone ever seen this color and was the same shade used for multiple years? I will call Barber's tomorrow and consult archives, but I am almost positive that I do not remember seeing a blue popo bike from this era. I feel sure someone has a bike this color. Seadub

Its possible that when the police ordered Harleys in blue , they also ordered Indians in that same blue. There is a photo of an Indian motorcycle in color at this site http://ridermagazine.com/2015/01/29/...ial-1940-1945/ . I searched "1940 police harley blue"

No doubt. That is why I am looking for an actual bike that color. Chip book and done deal. Is your's HD Police blue? The HD color and Indian color will for sure be shades apart. Seadub

I was pretty sure that someone on this site either owns or knows where a bike is that would be the correct shade I need. Pretty sure they are out there. Just want this one to be as correct as possible. Seadub
