New definition of "friend". Someone trying to empty your wallet instead of theirs! LOL!

Couldn't be further from the truth in this case. Sometimes we trade money. Sometimes we trade parts. It's really about friendship and the love of motorcycles and seeing another bike getting on the road again

    Tomcat,
Think you missed the joke. Even if your friend gave the engine for free, you will still empty your wallet.... Guess that kills the LOL part....

I've got some of the hardest parts to find with no money involved, there are still true enthusiasts out there that just want to see the rubber hit the pavement again

Didn't realize I'd entered the hardcore no humor zone. Guess I'm just not a "true" enthusiast.... Good luck with your projects. I'll just go away quietly now...

Do we have to start handing out tampons every month as contest prizes? Wtf

    Re: Tomcat's 48EL Project

I built my '48FL from parts. I got some killer deals which made it affordable, and fun, but like Wallaman said, it's still going to slap your wallet silly. In my case, I got the correct frame for free from my good friend in Miami, and most of the motor (minus wheels) for $800. The rest was swap meets, and ebay, but mostly swap meets since that was 10 years ago when this was still very much a person to person hobby. I can look at my '48 and I can tell you where most every part came from, and that is what makes it so dear to me. Enjoy the project, Sean; you'll be surprised, and saddened by how soon it is done, because you're going to have a lot of fun with it. The '48 is in the top 10 of my favorite Harley-Davidsons.

    Thanks Mark!

went to one of my local Harley parts supply and picked up a couple pairs of nice 48-49 FL cylinders. We were able to find some on the shelf and didn't even need to go out and dig thru the semi trailer. they are all .020-.030" over. And just a couple broken fins.
