As Jesus said; "Render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's". Well, Ceasar better keep his meathooks off my motorcycle parts. A thrift store is a brick, and mortar business that has expenses, and has to make a profit to survive; hence they should pay taxes. My motorcycle addiction is a hobby; I sell junk I don't need, to get junk I do need, and that balance sheet never tilts in my favor.

If this keeps up it won’t take long before all the good deals will happen in the parking lots at the big meets. Psst…. “Hey buddy, what are you looking for, I got the good stuff over here in the trunk of my car.”

That's the way it was back in olden times. The first swap meet I went to was at an Outlaw bike shop's vacant lot in Tampa. The shop did it to promote their existence, and it was one of the best meets I've ever been to. My first AMCA meet was at the old Maguire field in Winter Haven. Everything was informal, lots of laughs, and just a gathering of weirdoes that shared a common love of old motorcycles. When I first heard about Steve McQueen buying up a collection of old motorcycles in South Florida, I knew the game was going to change. It was flattering that highbrows were interested in dirty old motorcycles, but that was the beginning of the end. As soon as wealthy hipsters get interested in something, the fun is over, and money replaces devotion. Of course; then the taxman shows up

yup, i was at davenport whenever the 1st year was that mqueen showed up with ekins, everybody was whispering like jesus was had just floated in on a cloud from the east. i was around 25 years old at the time and knew the jig was up for common folk like me. a couple years later winger sold his henderson to mcqueen, at the time for an unheard amount of money. the meets before the beautiful people came in were family and friends affairs who would go out of their way to help each other.
