    High number isn't it?
1946 Chief - take apart and put back together
101 Scout - parts accumulation stage

    Hi,
That paperwork is great. I have no record that CDH7026/3487026 survives. This highest 1948 serial number I have heard of is CDH7148. CDH7148 was claimed to have some Police service history, and the machine was sold on eBay a few weeks ago.

I wonder what the $25 for "advertising" are charged for - today you would get that as a discount if you read the right add???

    Hi,
This invoice is from the factory to the dealer, and the delivered machine might not have been one that was ordered by a customer. I'm guessing that the 'floor plan' delivered machine was part of a deal by the factory that kept machines in the dealers' showrooms - hoping that someone would buy it. It does kind of seem like the factory is gouging the dealer, but if the factory has some kind of advertising campaign going on in the dealer's behalf, maybe the factory figured they could charge the dealer. The arrangement was probably something that was set-up beforehand. Most of these records are now long-gone, so seeing them is always interesting.

Don't forget Indian was moving the factory between production in '48 and the resumption in '50 so there may have been other reasons for keeping machines in the showrooms when production and product would be hard to come by the following year.
