Thread: 1941 el case on bay

Re: 1941 el case on bay

A follow up about the 1941 "long rib" case I bought in winter:
Got great help from Eric establishing the authenticity of this case, thanks again!

    So that's what I did..:-)

The chunk buying from Knuckleworks would have worked out for sure but would have cost me a lot after shipping and taxes over here, if I lived in the USA I would have bought that one.

Nowhere to get a piece of a broken case..
Could buy an extra broken right side case though that could serve to keep the cases from warping when the time was coming.

A guy over here suggested to use a shovelhead case as a donor..
They come still relatively cheap ,all bolt holes fit nicely as well and the cylindersstuds being in the right position.
Lots of extra " meat" to get rid of however...!

    Some self-explaining pictures:

afraid of damaging the VIN while welding and grinding had to fabricate some protective cover for it..

The cases matched up fine, had to lap the bearings in-line a rather small amount and make the cylinder decks even.
Welding was done by a local man and grinding bevelling etc by myself

The engine runs fine ( again) pfff.

Thanks for all advices and great info on this forum!

Nice save! Great work with the grinding.

Great job!! I always thought that, like VINs,BN#s were unique to the case....
