Money is no object, the object is the object. You only live once. If the stars align and the object and the money are in the same orbit, why not? Although, i think sales like this are anomalies , somebody wanted it and had the means. So they got it. "What price is glory?"

Is this stuff really that rare? I remember seeing tons of late 30s-50s H-D parts at bike shops and old dealerships. I just wonder if all of it is on the market, or if there are still tons of it being hoarded? It's possible the big hoarders are going to sit on it till they die, or won't unload it until they get the maximum price for it. Personally, I think politics, natural disaster, or the fickle finger of fate is going to burden these people with a lot of scrap metal.

Very little of this stuff is truly rare. There are still VAST hoards of parts out there. I've personally seen a few that boggle the mind. Imagine EVERY single part at a meet the size of Davenport, triple it and put it in a single warehouse. And those are just the few that I've seen. I'm sure there are dozens more that I've never laid eyes on.

What is really rare is the money in my pockets to buy this stuff!

Right now in the days before Christmas is an excellent time to buy stuff on eBay.
Just ask my good friend Len.
I think a lot of people are Christmas shopping instead of parts shopping. For most of us, that's the same thing, though....
Great buys, Len ! I am a little envious, even if I did 'pass' on them.
I guess that's called "Didn't Buy It Remorse"...

here is one i don"t get. not just the price it got. maybe somebody really needs a drop in motor. i don't get how some 3000+ people looked at it. i never got more then about 1,100.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-David...US_motorcycles
one thing a saw that was funny with this sale. it looked like a guy ask how much the reserve is. the seller claims he paid $15.00 to have a reserve. he then ask the bidder to pay $15 to be told the reserve. the bidder passes on paying the $15.00 instead he bids it up to the reserve. find what it is and retracts his bids.

I about fell out of my seat when I saw that one Rob. It's not even a correct motor. Wrong oil pump and gearcase cover, wrong distributor and cover, wrong carburetor (albeit a nice carb) and it looks like the cylinders are 1925-26 style and not the 1927 only cylinders.
    I'm confused.
