Thread: Nice

Eric, Yes, that rear fender section fits so sweet. How come they could make a good fitting fender assembly back then, yet with new technology, the repops are terrible?

Thomas Feeser at Replicant Metals are making BT fenders and said they "Hope" to have them available by June 2013. But by the number of dies and processes he described. It sounds like a lengthy process.

    Re: Nice

I can only imagine what it took to make big dies like H-D, and the auto makers used. Bear in mind, the metal was often heavier than today, and fits and finishes were superb. There's no lead, or filler in a Harley fender, and from what Matt McManus has said, the paint was very thin so the raw fender must have been flawless. America probably had many of the best tool and die makers in the world back in those days.

    Re: Nice

Dies are made of tool steel equivalents. They got to take a real beaten to withstand so many stampings. They do wear however and that wear many times determines the next generation of models and styles which will enter the market as the dies are reground into other shapes.

Thanks for the I.D., Villy! What do you have, like an old ad that you could post? A picture of an MCM advertisement, like of that old Superior ad, would be outstanding.

I received this from Villy in Denmark, who asked me to post photos for him:

    Hi again Gerry,
Here comes the three pic's i have.
What make me say it's MCM is that the Knuckle with the competition setup is the same bike on both pics. But i'm of course not sure of the brand. Webco made some very nice pipe sets too.

Don't be fooled by the Beck Mufflers, I just think they sold different muffler systems too, but what do i know???
Some of you Old Guys over there ought to know better?????, don't you think so?? ;-)))) Best from here Villy
