    Pressing out forth gear race

Thanks to my friend I have a couple of boxes to play with, unfortuately the races for forth gear have to come out.I don't have a good press and have usually gotten by with some heat and a good strongback with heavy threaded rod and I can usually just press stuff out with a big wrench. It aint working with this race, they are some dry...what is the normal fit for this race?

With the snap ring off the fourth gear race will usually fall out by itself with heat. No press is required. They are only a couple thousandths press so it doesn't take much! Snap ring on the inside, race comes outwards.
I usually just set the case on a couple blocks of wood, warm it up, and it falls out! They go back in the same way, cold race, hot case and they are in!

I discovered the main race on my 49 was held in place with a couple set screws and purple locktite,, apparently years ago no over sizes were available so somebody had to get creative. it was still causing a weird vibration at speed so I found a guy locally who found an oversize race that fixed the problem...mike

What an idiot I am! I was pressing in the wrong direction.I was thinking that the snap ring was there to keep the race from walking toward the sprocket thus it had to be pressed out from the outside! Thanks to all!

That looks like a good alternative Ray, seeing how I am going to build this case up from scratch!
