    Shopping around for early HD

    http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/1...n-VL-103047836

Ive started looking around for a pre 36, realizing that at least for now, a knuckle isnt in my price range.
I noticed this one in Fla, and was wondering what opinions the experts might provide.
    Thx, Kevin.

You'll get more WOW for your buck with that '30 than you will with a comparably priced Knuck. Plus, you get a sidecar. It appears to be very correct, and well done. '30 VL's are a bit unique and if you had time to get Steve Slocombe's VL book from VL Heaven, it would be to your advantage. If it's as nice in person as it is in the pictures it would be a good value.

Looks like a very fair price on a good looking machine.

    Different opinion...
It looks like a nice bike but the price is $27k.
For $27k you can buy a knuckle if that's what you want.
Prices have increased this year and have reached an unsustainable level (my opinion).
Tops for a VL is $20k in my book.

    Thanks Buzz,
This one looks just as nice (except sidecar) and the world values it at $14k.
There is another day for the auction, this is more realistic.

Re: Shopping around for early HD

I have not given it a lot of thought, but I feel the prices of the early (teens and twenties) motorcycles jumped in prices after the Motorcycle Cannonball. Before that many thought of the early bikes as little more than novelties to be ridden around swap meets and an occasional around town ride. The Cannonballers sure changed that perception.

Sure Knuckleheads continue to climb in prices, as do Panheads and to a less degree Shovelheads. But the Harley JD that would have sold five years ago for $10,000 or less is now $15,000 or higher... and climbing.

For old Harleys I like the JDs and VLs but am a bit too big for the WLs.

    Nice beater,skeeter.Although the fairing seems,a,little un-aerodynamic ? lol.kiddin' ya. Man I can't believe the prices on those old bikes either ! 15 for a '32 AND a sidecar ? ! I dunno,just seems like a buy to me.
