K&N air filter for 59 FL

I'm wondering if anyone uses a K&N air filter in the stock air cleaner housing. My bike is a 1959 FL and has the stock air cleaner with the center screw. I see a a few K&N air filters advertised to fit eariler FL's but not as late as 59. Would K&N # E2470 work? The filter that's in there now is the screen mesh with foam model. My carb is the stock Linkert M-74B. The OD of the cleaner cover is 7"

Without checking your K&N part number, I can say that YES, there's a K&N filter that will fit in the stock air cleaner. But only the later ones with the center screw like yours. The filter is a tad too thick to work with the J-slot cover--- but I've heard of a few guys that have successfully trimmed the filter down to fit.
But with your air cleaner, it will fit. However since the filter is a little thicker than stock, part of the backing plate will show, about 1/8".

Don't forget a 'recharge kit' for when it gets dirty. Comes with a spray cleaner, and an oil to add back to the filter element. Good for 3 or 4 cleanings.

The factory used to sell the K&N filter in it's Eagle Iron line, and they were cheap.

I installed one on my '62FL that I picked up from Rod. I also picked up the "recharge kit"
