1936 Indian rear fender indo needed

I have a rear fender I picked up for my 36 four, I think the chief uses the same fender. My question is, on the front side of the fender by the battery, there are two pushed in places a few inches up from the bottom. They are pushed in towards the tire. They look like someone used a large ball peen hammer to make the dents. Does anyone know if these were put in at the factory? if so what do they do. Thanks for any info. Stan

According to the parts book, 1936-39 Chief and 1936-39 4 cylinder models use different rear fender assemblies.

The two pushed in areas are for clearance of the back edge of engine/transmission case. Two of the three bolts on the back edge stick out far enough to hit the fender

Thanks for the information. I was about ready to pound the dents out, as they looked like they didn't belong. That is why the chief, and four fender's are different. Stan

Yup, the chief has one "outie" versus the fours two "innies at the bottom front of the fender
