where the centering cone is, to at least the .00" but prefer .000". Hopefully someone has a springer laying around and a set of calipers.
Thanks in advance

To wrap this up, Rubone was kind enough to measure a couple. He quoted me 1.035" plus or minus a thou.
I was hoping to find a timken out of the box that would work w/o modifying the stem or neck cups (i this case I had a painted frame with timken neck cups.... and I didn't want to deal with disturbing them). Well, I guess you can't, at least not using a "Timken" (I'm not counting using a spacer over the bottom of the stem, which creates issues with the stem being too short, not to mention raising the bike an inch or so). I'm sure people have been through this 100xs over, but I couldn't find any concrete info, so I'll put it here in case anyone is looking in the future. Below are the Timken combinations that fit the stock '60+ neck cup (L44643/L44610 being stock). Even if you modified a neck cup to fit a different race, there's still not bearing that's even within .004" of the 1.035" measurement.
That said, I've converted to timkens by shaving the base of the neck stem with a file and die grinder until the L44643 fits all the way down to the crown. Other than being a little time consuming the only down side is that you can't go back to stock, but no other mods are necessary.

That was the standard method of doing that as far back as my experience with them goes, over 40 years! That said, I've converted to timkens by shaving the base of the neck stem with a file and die grinder until the L44643 fits all the way down to the crown.
