Thread: Race motor numbers

  1. Re: Race motor numbers

Didn't see this thread before on race motor numbers. When did they (AMA?) stop listing motor number on the race entry lists? As a XR owner this would interest me.
    Thanks, Ron

The AMA did not do this. They only are in a few races.no daytona etc.1967 last year.No XR.Not all Springfield from '51-'67 have them.It is believed the AMA has info this for many years, many races

Duffy, thanks for the reply. I'd read somewhere that the AMA required riders to list with them their racers motor numbers and that was the motor they had to race in a AMA sanctioned event. Maybe how duplicate numbers pop up.

A lot of work to give this info away but worth it when owners/collectors from around the world tell me about finding their bikes history. Some have found the families and got more history. Please share with race other bike owners. There were many dullicate numbers because one bike would be roadrace another flattrack, hillclimb etc.also as one blew they had hidden spares!
