| | | My Sidecar
I've had a 1955 Harley sidecar on and off and on my 1955 Harley Panhead for several years. It's a lot of fun to ride and the kids enjoy riding around in it.
Many years ago I had an Indian 101 with Goulding sidecar but sold it (dumb move!) Also had a 1953 BMW R51/3 with Ural sidecar for something like 20 years - sold that too.
Anyone else ever notice that people smile and wave at you when hauling a sidecar that wouldn't give the time of day when riding the same bike as a solo?

well, a few weeks back when I was out with my grandpa it seemed like everybody waved at us. people on their porch and kids in yards. where in the past the only waves I get are from other riders.
his sidecar rig is an 06', but just the same. |

I tell people that the sidecar is the greatest safety device ever invented for motorcycles -- because everybody, but EVERYBODY does a double-take when they see a sidecar. Then they smile. Then most will wave. Little chance of being run into, followed by the ol' "I didn't see the motorcycle," excuse!

Kids love hacks too. I've seen them jump up and down while waving, they get so excited.

I was the first person to qualify for The Iron Butt Association on a sidehack. That is a 1,000 mile ride I don't want to do again. Especially the part over twisty US 50 in the Sierra Nevada's.
