Danny, I WILL be down that way sometime soon, I hope before the next F.O.G. gathering, to take you up on the Indian ride. on a Chief, of course.
There were fundamental differences between H-D Springers and Indian Springers. I know that the Harley's leading link met all obstacles head on, and transmitted shocks encountered straight back and up the fork legs to the neck, and Indian trailing links, following behind, acted more like a boat rudder, up and down, and gentler.
Both displayed minimal unsprung weight (minimal mass to put into motion, momentum) so why did Indian go to that European girder, bolted solidly to the front axle, after WWII ? Just to "look more modern" and because the Europeans were using girders? They were chronically broke and trying to display "progress?"

Looks like a Turkish motorhead, trying to introduce himself. I tried Babelfish, but they don't cover Turkish. Hmmm...

Blows my mind to think I can sit here at my desk and chat with old bike experts from all over the world -- the Netherlands, Turkey, France -- even exotic lands like California.
Amazing.
