An odd thing happened to me yesterday while at my mother in laws place.Seems she has this weather vane on her garage that is quite valuable. This guy drives into the yard and offers her a bunch of money for it,we get to talking and I ask him so where are all the Harley parts,he drops a name and says don't let him tell you that he doesn't have them.
So.....we have all heard these kinds of stories but lets just say that this turns out into something but there is no way you can afford to buy the stuff, how do you make it work for you?

You find out what he's got and what he'll take for it. You do the math and determine if you can sell one or two peices to recover your investment and have the rest left over as profit. You go to the bank and do whatever it takes to get the money. You score the old Harleys, sell what you need to, then you own the rest free and clear. Simple.

Sounds like a buddy that wants to be a partner in the adventure is the way to go.
But be careful and lay out everything in writing, money can make the best of friends mad at each other. But when done right, can work out great.
Good Luck!

Wouldn't be nice to be able to land something like this at a price that would allow me to pass the parts around at a reasonable price to a community like us.
I went through a rebuild of a 52 FL in the 80's that I tried as hard as I could to make original. There were times that I wanted to just cut it up and make a bobber or something because of the ridiculous prices that were being asked for some stuff.I paid $150 for a correct speedo that was beyond rebuild,I was told at sale the it could be rebuilt.$200 for a cutout relay,$250 for script tank emblems, one side. This was middle 80's.
I think it would be real cool just to be able to say to someone I got that part and get it to them without demanding their firstborn.

Well, find out what he's got and whether you can even pry it out of his hands, that's first. Most of those hoarder types, they want to take that stuff to their graves with them.
Oh, thanks a lot for telling me that stuff about the '52 FL you worked on 20 years ago. Well actually, the price of speedometers has gone up some....!

I know where there is a four car garage packed with all of my old friend Ron Grygus' parts. Knuck, Pan, Shovel Evo, and Aluminum UL heads. Engine cases, cylinders, frame parts, transmissions, wheels, forks, yada, yada, yada and a complete Flhtc in a basket.15 grand will take it all. But if a trip around the world cost a nickel I couldn't get out of town.

Before you get all worked up over this you might want to do a little homework and see if you have a live one or another of Elvis' long lost motorcycles.
