How Did You Start?

I started riding when my older brother came home with a mini bike when I was in 9th grade. We rode the wheels off that thing and eventually I bought a real motorcycle right after I got out of high school. Been riding ever since.

How about others here?

Back in '60 my dad brought home a Globe Safety scooter for me. I soon graduated to a '55 Cushman Eagle, then to a '57 Super Eagle, Then to a '47 Servicar. More that 100 bikes since then, as for a few years I made my living traveling and buying stashes of bikes. Hauling them home and reselling them. Large piles of bikes like the ones from former H-D dealer Koch in Denver, Charlie in Albuquerque, Curly's Outpost Motorcycles in Rosebud, MO. Lotsa bikes outta Mexico.

My best friend's Dad owned the local Honda shop in the late 60s. They taught me to ride a 175 scrambler. Took me to my first scrambles race. Turned 18, moved out, and bought my first bike. All down hill since then!

Good friends of our family had an escourt business and he bought all the pans and moto-guzis from the Seattle PD. When I was little he would give us rides. As I got a little older he had a Honda trail 50 or 70, I can't remember and he used to let us ride that. When I turned 15 I bought a Kawi 100 and started racing and it has been a long race to see how many I can put under my legs since. I am thinkin sport bike (2nd childhood).

I worked my way through college and couln't afford a car so I bought a used Sears. I don't remember the model. It had two pistons but only one spark plug. It got me through 7 years of woking full time and going to school. I have been riding ever since but never had a new bike until 2001.

Hang on a second. When you were younger your friend owned an escort service and you got free rides?

What's that got to do with motorcycles?

Started on a Honda 90 street bike at 10 years old riding it in the dirt. The fever just kept getting worse over the years. Had to keep moving up bigger and better.

Honda 50 for me in 1971, then a 305 Suprhawk, then a Suzuki 500 Titan, then a Honda 750 in 1976.

Eventually I discovered Harleys and have been fortunate enough to have owned many wonderful Harleys and Indians since then.

Flathead, not that kind of escourt service. Limo's an bikes. I believe he escourted the Beatles through Seattle when they were there in 64 cause I got to go to the concert. Police type escourts and there were always some cops around.
