Paint Question

Modern paints are so much different than the paints from the mid-50's, aren't they? I'm going to be seeking out paint for the '52 FL I am putting back together from the frame up. I know the frame is black. I have considered all the colors available for this model in 1952, and have chosen as my color of choice..... Black.
I know that the modern 2-part paints of today might turn out a little bit too 'shiny' for the correct look I am seeking. Am I thinking correctly? Also, many of the OE parts I have aquired are less than pristine and have that nicely aged 'patina'. Bolted onto brilliantly blinding sniny black paint, I just don't think it will look right. I have luckily been able to avoid aftermarket parts for the most part; in fact, I am using amost NO aftermarket parts on reassembly, I have been able to aquire some real nice 'original' parts that I needed.
Any comments along these lines?

Big,
you can get a single stage paint (not a basecoat/clearcoat) that will not be nearly as shiny as the "2 part" and then mix in a little clear with the single stage and shoot that ive used about a 4 1/2 to 1 ratio a couple of times with fairly good success, but the more coats you lay the deeper/shinier it will get... do it slowly and i believe you will get the look you want

Antique Cycle Supply can supply you with factory colors in single stage paints. Note that the black used on the frames was not the same as on sheetmetal. Frames were zinc chromate black.

Thanks Chris, I kinda thought there was a difference. I'll call Lonnie, I know he has the right paint.

You may be able to find the black zincchromate at a local industrail paint store. Not at an automotive paint store.

Yeah, Lonnie said I could probably find it locally. I ordered the 'correct' paint for the sheet metal from him this morning.
