Re: 1948wl generator question

Good call. Check the internal wiring for cracks in the insulation. It is extremely critical that nothing shorts out to one of the brush holders. The Service Manual has an excellent section on generators, it will show the proper way that the wires twist around each other to help prevent that. Good luck, if you need any help, come on back in here......

And change the ball bearings and grease them well. If I`m right they are standard size and not too expensive. If you put new ones on, never press them on by the outer ring, but only the inner ring, so no pressure comes on the balls. (I mean the balls of the bearing)....

Yes, they are readily available at any bearing store.

Re: 1948wl generator question

Hi everyone

I am really new to this forum, as Sarge mention before there was a guy in New Brunswick ,Canada who was doing those Poweraythor 32E,so here I am the guy doing the Poweraythor 32E to replace the generator model 32E on early Harley, for those who want to stay with their original generator for a correct restoration, I approved them and that is alright to me,but for those of you who want to optimize their ride to a 12 Volts system and ride day and night without problems, there is a solution for you , after at least 20 years of doing and testing similar units to replace the 65A generator (Poweraythor 65A , there was an article talking about it in the American Iron January 2006 in Letters)) on later style Harley like the 58 and up Big Twin and Sportster until the last generator one in 83 ,I has sell many units around and in the last two years around the world via eBay, and to tell you the truth I had no return to this date, let me tell that I had install a unit(65A) on my generator shovel 67 since the last 20 + years, had never give me any problem whatsoever, I am actually doing a bunch of 32E replacement and at the same time some 65A replacement, for those who have interest in this innovative and very reliable 12 Volts alternator with a built-in regulator, this units will give you the peace of mind to take your bike as a daily riders, and don't have to take care of the charging system again, if you plan to have your ride original again it is very easy to do,if you have questions or anything else concerning this unit and you want to contact me via email as Sarge mention before ,it is saddlebagrail@yahoo.ca ,I will have them on eBay hopefully in fall so the first come first serve, as I am doing them individually as a custom design, I have included some pics of my very last design that would be a replacement for all early Harley using the 32E generator, and excuse me for misspelling or mistakes, English is not my main language, as there might be some mistakes as you read this text,Ray in New Brunswick, Canada
