cut exhaust

I want to make my exhaust go all the way back to the end of the fender.
My Q is do I make the muffler longer or the pipe? and how will this effect sound and performance ?

Re: cut exhaust

Extend your red part. Much, much simpler to weld a pipe in than to extend and rebuild the muffler, such as it is. Won't make much difference, over all.

Re: cut exhaust

If you're gonna extend the muffler, the larger diameter tube, because it 'looks better,' just replace the whole length of it from the front cap. Then you won't have a joint in the mid of it, to grind off best-you-can or live with. It's a little sheet metal fab. project to make a tube of the new, longer length and weld it in between the two original end caps.
I don't think a few inches will change your engine performance to any degree. 'May lower the timber of the exhaust note slightly, a bit like extending a trombone's slide, or any musical instrument's overall length. Sounds like an interesting projeckt, Steve-O. G'luck! or, "GOOOOOOO-luuuuuuck!!!!" (heh, heh!)

Re: cut exhaust

thanks sarge . I think I will get a longer pipe and cut the welds at each end of the muffler and add a longer muffler pipe
