59 xlch sportster

Starting to lay out parts for the 59 xlch. I'll post how things are going after the new year and as parts go on.

Very nice looking layout of parts! Better lay off the O'Doul's so you don't mess it up.

Gee, Murph, you're starting to piss me off. Where are you getting these bikes (and parts)?

No need to be angry, I'm just the guy doing the assembly. The parts come in the door and leave attatched to someone elses bike. The only bike that is mine is the 62 ch. I find it fasinating myself to hold a part in my hand that I could not find or afford for ten years.

Well, if anything falls of the truck, let MoonWolf and I fight for it.

Re: 59 xlch sportster

Nice stuff Murph ! Looking at your posts makes me feel like a kid looking at a Christmas toy catalogue !

Since you probably have all the other early CH junkies ( too harsh ??) watching this post and drooling , maybe someone can tell if all of the 59 XLCH's used the Hummer light switch ? The reason I ask, is that I recently found an early CH headlight bracket that hasn't been drilled for the rotary switch. The 59 parts book shows the bracket without the hole while it appears in later books. ?????

Help me out here guys ! Was there a version of the early CH headlight bracket without the rotary switch or did this one mistakenly leave the factory undrilled ?

Re: 59 xlch sportster

You've got me on this one, Yard Dog. The purpose of the visor is to hold the headlight on, but the headlight switch was mounted in the visor from 1959-69 and in 1970 they switched to a different style visor. There would be no reason to use the visor if you weren't running a headlight, so I'm stumped. Maybe it did just leave the factory without getting drilled? Or maybe it's for some racing application that I don't know about.

Re: 59 xlch sportster

I think it was never drilled personally, I never even heard of one. But if it is legit someone will know what it is for.
