Question My 62' Servi-Car

I need to replace the front and rear tires on my 62' Servi-Car. Does anyone have a good source that handles something close to the vintage tread that should be on it? I have the spoke front rim and solid steel rear rims.

Also, mine has a LINKERT carb - but the backing plate for the Air Cleaner is missing the tab that controls the choke. I have been searching all the restoration books I can find - so far I have not found any photos or anyone that has a backing plate.

Any suggestions on these items would be greatly appreciated.

I recently saw that backing plate on ebay, but someone had cut the choke tab off. It wouldn't have been too hard to restore it, although it never wouldn've been 'unmolested' again.

I have heard the Cokers 'look' correct, but get horrible mileage. Tread all gone in 2000 miles. They are more for show than for go.

The must be nice and "grippy".

Jim, how many miles a year are you planning for the 62? Just keep searching under Linkert on ebay and you will find a correct backing plate. Might take a couple of weeks but they show up regularly.

Wink

Mileage will be less than 1,000 a year. Only plan to do local runs and charity drives. I've looked at the COKER tires for the rear, what would you recommend for the front?

Yes, I saw the backing plate with the broken tab on EBay so I know what to look for. Does anyone have a backing plate with a correct tab that they would be willing to take a photo of and send to me?

Thanks everyone for your input.

I've Got 6k Plus Miles On My Cokers, And They Still Have Plenty To Go Before I Will Need To Change Them. Make Sure You Keep The Air Pressure Up, Or They Will Wear Out Fast....

The tires should be Firestones. The Cokers will work, however, to be correct the Firestones can be found in the V Twin catalog, I'm not really sure who's producing them for Ted by the Firestone name is on the side. You could use the Goodyear, however, they wouldn't be correct. Just a thought

Although H-D sometimes used Firestones during the Servicar era the majority of the tires they used were Goodyear.
