I haven't tackled the problem yet.
I went to my deepest resource and Stett said, "Hey Kirk, I would have to trace it out, best advice is to check from start to finish. THANX STETT!"
Welcome to Stett's - Custom Harley-Davidsons!
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
My list of problems are:
1. The brake lamp won't light, but I have instructions for troubleshooting from the Brake Lamp topic and I'll post pics.

2. The OIL dash-lamp won't light.
I'll trace the wiring from the generator, to it's sources, or the other way around, from the source to destination, if it seems more logical, once I have the dash cover off and the diagram in front of me.
[Using different colored highlighters on the cloth conduit book illustrations helps as a harness locater].

Any OIL-lamp fault-finding suggestions before I start out would be welcomed.

I bought a basket knuckle chopper a little over a year ago and am whittling away at making it a fairly stock period bike. Today I'm taking the heads apart to bead and paint them and get the rocker enclosures dechromed before parkerizing them. One cover was off and the top collar was off of the valve but everything else was assembled. So I take it apart and drive that guide out. It comes out and looks a little odd. The PO or somebody put the lower collar under the guide before installing the guide, so it was between the guide and the head. To weird.

I have the tools but not the knowledge.
I'd rather learn as I go with this problem (I'll take pics of the mentor(s) suggestions) and troubleshoot in tandem effort while installing the belt and clutch. Thank you(se's).

I just got a 56 Pan that once had a sidecar attached. When the hack was added the owner apparrently installed a servicar non adjustable lower fork clamp to set the rake forward. It is a 2 piece lower tree with the long bolt through it but is not slotted. I got the bike minus the hack and need to set the rake back to stock. Does anyone here have any ideas? Will I need to change just the lower fork clamp? Can I just flip it around? Help please!! John Lindemann

Ok, don't thrash me here guys, I'm still learning a lot on the Knuckleheads, but answer me this if you will.

To the best of my understanding, the 16" wheel was offered in 1940 as an option and became standard in 1941. However...

The steering head angle was 28 degrees on 1940 frames, and when the MoCo went to 16" as standard in '41 there was some frame bumping to 29 degrees, to compensate for steering loss with 16" wheels on a frame designed for 18".

Now, if the frames were bumped to 29 degrees, but a guy orders 18" wheels as an option, doesn't the bump now adversally affect handling?
