She was 85 years old and was a great influence in my life.

After buying me and my brothers a 50cc minibike when I was in high school, she and my dad told us we would never be allowed to own or ride a motorcycle. Never really understood that, but glad they got us that minibike.

Eventually she became more accepting of my motorcycles and would occasionally go for a ride with me in one of my various sidecar rigs I owned over the years.

She would talk to strangers on Harleys and ask them if they read American Iron Magazine, one of the motorcycle magazines I publish. I know she was proud of what I do for a living and, as a magazine publisher herself, gave me some good ideas on how to improve the magazines.

The one that shot her was a Mexican national here illegally. He had been deported twice.

Yesterday, as he sat in jail, another inmate had heard the story on the news and became so incensed about him killing that young girl that he beat the crap out of him and sent him to the hospital.
